Blogmas Day 3 – Blog Goals for the New Year

Blogmas Day 3 is already here! Today’s post is up a little later than usual because my fiancé and I spent all day Friday moving into our first apartment together! We spent the day hauling boxes up and down stairs, unpacking and filling cabinets, and spent way too much time in Target deciding between shower curtains and hand towels. Needless to say, things have been a little crazy around here. But we couldn’t be happier that this is the first step that leads up to us getting married in May! I’ll have just one semester of college left after next week, and let me just tell you that senioritis is a real thing, guys.

But enough about that, today I want to share with you my blog goals for the new year. January will mark Katelyn Blog’s first birthday, and this past year has been a learning process for sure! I’m glad I picked a blog name that has allowed me to grow and evolve as my interests change. When I first started this blog, I wanted to do it all. We’re talking DIY, college, beauty, lifestyle, recipes, and more. Yikes! Now that I’ve had some time to experiment with this blog, I’ve learned that I really enjoy writing about beauty and lifestyle, so that’s where we’re headed in 2017.

Here are five of my biggest goals for the blog this upcoming year:

  1. Rebranding

Change is something that keeps me motivated. I’ve been playing around with new logos for a while now. It’s actually become a form of procrastination for me. Paper due this week? Let’s play around with fonts in Photoshop! Dishes are dirty? Hold on, let me finish this logo idea. You get the picture. I’m hoping to decided on a new logo soon!

  1. Learn Illustrator

I have the entire Adobe Suite on my Mac. (Thank you, student discounts!) However, I’m still trying to figure out this whole Illustrator thing! I’ve taken classes on Photoshop and InDesign at my university, but Illustrator seems like it’s on a whole other level. Graphics and text look SO much better when done in Illustrator because graphics can be sized as small or as large as you need them to be, and they still maintain their resolution and clarity. I’ve found that the best way to learn is to keep playing around with it and to use video tutorials online when necessary.

  1. Start a newsletter

I’ve been wanting to start a newsletter for a while now, and I have some projects in the works that would be great to send through a newsletter every once in a while! I know that our inboxes are crowded with emails though, so let me ask you all: do you like getting newsletters from blogs you follow? And would you prefer them to be weekly or monthly?

  1. Nail Down an Instagram Theme

Instagram is my absolute favorite social media platform. I love that it’s so visual and that I’ve been able to connect with so many amazing people and opportunities through it, but why does maintaining a consistent Instagram theme have to be so hard?? Now that I’m building up more of a following, I find myself obsessing over the way my pictures look all together as a whole. This next year I want to focus on improving my photography skills even more, and creating a cohesive “look” that defines me and my blog.

  1. Get New Headshots

I am long overdue for some new headshots to use on my blog and social media! My current pics were snapped with my fiancé’s iPhone and I know they’re not the best. New photos of myself is one of my top priorities to have done before the new year!

Starting to think about your wishes for the new year now will give you time to think about how you can already starting achieving those goals. That brings us to our Blogmas Day 3 question:

What’s one goal you have for the new year?

Whether you’re a blogger or not, let me know down in the comments below so we can encourage each other to achieve our goals!

See you tomorrow for Day 4 of Blogmas! If you missed yesterday’s post about self-care during the holidays, check it out here
