The Beauty Tag: Makeup Must Have’s and Tips

I’ve been tagged by the super-stylish and sweet Alessia of Haute & Houndstooth for the beauty tag!

Alessia Haute & Houndstooth

The beauty tag is basically eight questions about anything beauty-related that is passed around in the blogging world to get to know each other more and have a little fun!

So let’s get right into it and answer Alessia’s beauty questions:

What is your favorite color of lipstick?

I am ALWAYS drawn to a pretty mauve color. It’s perfect for my pale skin tone and I think it goes with every occasion and season. My latest fav is Buxom’s matte lipstick in “Devious Dolly.

Live without one: mascara or concealer?

AH, this is a tough one! As hard as it would be to go without concealer (thank you, dark circles), I would have to say mascara. There’s something about it that makes me feel complete and I love the way it opens your eyes up.

How long does it take you to do your makeup?

Totally depends on the situation. If I’m going to class, 10 minutes max. If it’s date night…my fiance is probably going to be waiting on me, haha! (Sorry babe!) I love taking my time when I can, so I can listen to music and try out new looks.

What product do you use on your eyebrows?

Right now I am using NYX’s Tame & Frame Tinted Brow Pomade in “Chocolate.” I am on the hunt for an Anastasia brow gel dupe, and I think this stuff comes pretty close. I love that I can use this product to both fill in my brows and help keep them in line.

What is the best makeup tip/trick that you have learned?

I’ve recently been really into “baking” my makeup. If you’ve somehow missed it taking over Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube, it’s essentially putting loose setting powder on certain areas of your face where your makeup tends to not stay as well (for me, my forehead and undereyes), letting it “bake” or sit on the skin for a couple minutes and then brushing it away. I can tell a huge difference in how long my makeup holds up on the days when I bake it, although I typically save this trick for date nights and special occasions! 😉

What is one brand that you would never recommend?

If I’m perfectly honest, I’ve never tried ONE of Ulta’s beauty products that I truly liked…I got a free eye shadow palette from the store the other day with my purchase and it is some of the most un-pigmented shadow I’ve ever attempted to put on! Definitely do not recommend.

Naked, Too Faced or Morphe palette?

Naked palettes all the way! I have palettes 2 and 3 and find that I rarely reach for anything else! The looks you can create with the palettes are so versatile and the quality of the shadow is amazing.

What is worse: unblended foundation or chunky mascara? (I went there)

Unblended foundation! Nothing is more cringe worthy than a foundation that isn’t blended to the neck or worse, is patchy.

And those are the eight beauty questions!

Here are my questions:

Do you remember your first makeup item?

What is your holy-grail foundation?

Fake eyelashes-yay or no way?

Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?

If you could leave the house using just one makeup item, what would it be and why?

Do you prefer brushes or sponges for makeup application?

What is your most cherished beauty product?

What is your favorite beauty tip or trick?

I am tagging: Christina of Christina’s Chic Corner and Rachel from Compass Lane Chic.

Looking forward to seeing your responses!

Baking makeup is such a great trick, especially for under the eyes. I do it on occasion too and it makes such a difference! You have to give Ulta brand another chance, though. They make some of my favorite products. Specifically the Rose Gold Palette that I posted a tutorial on today, their single eyeshadow in Naked, and their pencil gel eyeliners. But I did get a palette from them last year on my birthday as a free gift, and I agree. There was absolutely no pigmentation to it at all. Thank you so much for tagging me, I can’t wait to get started and will have it up next week!! 🙂

    • Yes, baking really does make a huge difference! And I’m wondering if it’s just the free products they give out that aren’t so great. I might need to give them another chance because the only thing I’ve tried have been their freebies haha…definitely going to check out your tutorial now! And of course girl, you’re one of my favorite beauty bloggers! 🙂 Can’t wait!

    Great answers!

    Tamara –

  • Considering the fact that I would have answered nearly every question from Alessia the same as you had, I’m thinking I need to try that Buxom lipstick!
Can’t wait to answer all of your beauty questions!
