The New Year’s Eve Engagement: How He Proposed – Blogmas Day 24

Happy Christmas Eve! Yesterday I shared The New Year’s Eve tradition every couple should have, and today I want to share the story behind that tradition…the story of our engagement last year!

In honor of having less than half a year until my fiancé and I tie the knot, I thought I would finally share the story of how we got engaged! (Better late than never, right? 😉 )

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve dreamed about how I was going to get engaged and married to the man of my dreams. How would it happen? Would it be a surprise? Would I cry like the girls in the movies? (Spoiler alert: I bawled like a baby.)

Well folks, it finally happened.

On New Year’s Eve, my amazing boyfriend of 4 ½ years proposed to me! (And I said yes of course!)

Every year, we have a tradition to write each other a letter to be opened on the next New Year’s Eve. You can read about that here.

It’s such a special tradition that we share, and really gets us in the right mindset for the upcoming year.

This year, Kasey told me he had a special date planned as part of our New Year’s festivities. The day started with brunch at our favorite little restaurant, and then he surprised me by taking me to each and every one of “our” places that we had made memories at over the course of our relationship.

We are a pretty relaxed couple, so a typical New Year’s Eve usually involves us staying in and sharing a chill night. We watch movies, write letters to each other for the next year, watch the ball drop and share a kiss at midnight.

But not this year. Now it’s my turn to brag on my fiancé. (I’m still caught up in the excitement over finally getting to use that word. I know, I’m pathetic. 😉 )

After a busy but fun day, he took me out for a romantic fondue dinner. Then we made it home and it was finally time to open letters.

We took turns reading our old letters to each other, starting from the first we had ever done and leading up to the one we were about to open for 2016.

I read mine, then he started reading his to me…

About half way through I realized what was about to happen…

And here’s where it gets good. Exactly one year ago he wrote out his proposal to me.

Then, it was sealed up, and stored in my room for an entire year.

He knew the whole year, and somehow managed to keep it all a secret.

So long story short, I started 2016 with a fiancé and a ring on my finger. I can’t believe how well thought-out everything he does is, and it’s one of the many reasons I love Kasey!

This proposal was everything I could have ever dreamed of and was definitely “us.” I will treasure this memory forever, and luckily, our families couldn’t be happier.

I LOVE reading engagement stories, and wanted to share mine.

Blogmas Question of the Day: Do you have a romantic proposal story?

I will see you back here tomorrow for the final day of Blogmas 2016!
