It has officially been a week since I finished my first Whole30, and because I’ve received such an amazing response to this series, today I wanted to share my top ten Whole30 must haves with you!
1. LaCroix Sparkling Water
Sparkling water is something I totally fell in love with last year when I gave up soda, and on the Whole30 it’s a great way to get your “fizzy drink” fix without any sugar or artificial ingredients. There are so many delicious flavors of LaCroix, but my favorite right now is coconut. It’s perfect on hot summer days!
Also pictured: a kale and zucchini salad with asparagus, tomato, and chicken from WholeFoods…their salad bar is like Whole30 heaven!
2. Trader Joe’s Coconut Milk
Coffee creamer was one of the HARDEST things for me to give up on Whole30, so to ease myself into drinking a healthier cup of coffee, I discovered Trader Joe’s coconut milk…and it is seriously so good! I’ve tried tons of different coconut milk brands, but Trader Joe’s is my absolute favorite. It makes your coffee creamy and delicious, and best of all, has no sugar!
If you would have asked me what Ghee was before Whole30, I would have looked at you like you were crazy. Ghee is clarified butter, which is made by melting butter and skimming the fat off the top. I know, it might sound weird but ghee is great for sauteing veggies and cooking meat on Whole30, and it’s a lot lower in calories than traditional butter!
4. Coconut Oil
Another must have is coconut oil. Regardless of Whole30, coconut oil is a healthier alternative to vegetable oils and has infinite possibilities in cooking, beauty, and more. I love using coconut oil as a substitute for other oils when cooking meals, and it tastes great.
Snacking isn’t encouraged on Whole30, but LaraBars are great to throw into your bag for emergencies in case you’re out and can’t find anything to eat. They came in handy for me several times during the month! But be careful, there are several kinds of LaraBars that aren’t Whole30 approved! In short, anything with vanilla extract, chocolate chips, or peanut butter is not allowed. My favorite Whole30 compliant LaraBar flavors are apple pie, cherry pie, and chocolate coconut chew.
6. Justin’s Almond Butter
Almond butter is a great alternative to traditional peanut butter. Justin’s almond butter is Whole30 compliant and I actually found that I love it a lot more than regular peanut butter! This almond butter goes perfectly with granny smith apples. Seriously, try it!
7. Hot Sauce
I LOVE spicy things. And if you’re on a restrictive diet and need to give your food a bit more flavor, hot sauce is the answer! Most of the hot sauces I found are Whole30 compliant, but my personal favorite is the Louisiana brand. It’s great on eggs, veggies, potatoes…almost anything really! 😉
Does anyone else love kombucha too?? I was thrilled when I found several sugar-free kinds during my Whole30. I got my kombucha from WholeFoods and Target. Synergy is a great, affordable brand and has a lot of Whole30 approved options.
9. Trader Joe’s Spaghetti Sauce
Trust me, you won’t find very many spaghetti sauces without sugar in them. I was SO excited when I came across this at Trader Joe’s, and I stocked up on it! It has a more tangy and savory taste than some of the sweet spaghetti sauces you may be used to, but it’s really good. I loved putting this sauce over cauliflower rice or sauteed veggies and potatoes for a little extra flavor.
10. Quality Coffee
One huge thing I discovered is that when you have good, quality coffee, you won’t even miss the sugary creamers that were loading up your coffee before! One of the biggest things Whole30 made me question was if I really wanted COFFEE or just the SUGAR that was in the creamer. And even though I love some coconut milk in my coffee occasionally, I learned to love black coffee and now actually prefer it that way, even after I finished the program!
Those are my top ten Whole30 must haves! What are some of your Whole30 essentials?
